Poniatowski Square

PONIATOWSKI SQUARE

Today's Poniatowski Square was once called 'Neumarkt'. A monument was erected here in 1913. There were two main reasons of constructing it. The first one was to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the beginning of so called 'liberation wars' (the Prussian-French war). The second one was the 25th anniversary of the emperor's Wilhelm II coronation. In 1923 the plaques were attached to the monument commemorating the surnames of the Pyskowice inhabitants who died during the First World War.
